Lean Back

Lean Back !
Fightin’ the Biochemical Attack on the ‘hood
                                Min. Paul Scott

“How we stop the Black Panthers/Ronald Reagan cooked up an answer”
                             Crack Music-Kanye West

It was the eve of the revolution that their grandparents had always dreamed and the Black Lives Liberation Army was gonna  set it off  bright and early at dawn against the evil forces that were destroying the hood. But during the nightly strategy session, somebody passed out a purple drink in double styrofoam cups and suggested they do a battle toast. So when they finally woke up at noon the next day, the revolution was over...they lost.

This current generation of millennials is , arguably, the most “woke” group of African Americans since the conscious Hip Hop Era of the late 80’s and some would say, with their skills at social media, since the Black Power Era.  Since the murder of Trayvon Martin in 2012, there has been an awakening of the masses and the high profile police involved shootings of Michael Brown, Sandra Bland and many others have fast tracked us on the road to the revolution that Malcolm X talked about 50 years ago.

But as in science, for every action there is an opposite reaction. So, for everything that wakes us up, there is always something to put us back to sleep.

Drug use has always been glorified in Hip Hop to a certain degree. After all, when the early rappers said “ski” they weren’t talkin’ about a vacation in the Aspens .

But this new generation is on a whole ‘notha level.

Thanks to mainstream Hip Hop,  getting high off of prescription medicines seems to be just what the doctor ordered.

The past decade has seen a rapid increase of rappers being self medicated via prescription drugs. You can hardly listen to the radio without hearing artists like Future rappin’ about pills like they just raided Grandma’s medicine cabinet.

Much of this madness originally came out of the Dirty South as rappers from Texas to Tennessee bragged  about sippin’ on that Sizzurp aka Lean and some have died from takin’ too many sips of that Purple Drank. For the less hip, Lean is a deadly combination of soft drink, Kool Aid, codeine. cough medicine, Jolly Ranchers and anything else somebody feels like throwin’ in a cup.

Now enter something called “Legal Lean.”

Either some mad scientist  or some  hipster with a determined idea and too much time on his hands has come up with a way to  push that potion in the hood, legally, by substituting codeine
with natural stuff. The ingredients are different but the effects are supposed to be the same.

Now, while legal lean may be available near some college campuses so some wealthy white coeds can vicariously live out their Lil Wayne fantasies, most of the stores that sell this are in the hood.

Of course, the makers of Legal Lean think they are providing a service by giving cough syrup junkies an alternative.  To hear them tell it, Legal Lean is to Purple Drank  what Methadone is to Heroin.

After all it is 100% natural. But so are psychedelic mushrooms and if you really want to get funky with it, cocaine contains a 100% natural ingredient, as well.

So, once again the Black community is under a biochemical attack at a time when we need to be in our collective best state of mind to survive the Trump Era.

Fortunately, some groups around the country are not giving up the hood without a fight.

In Wisconsin, the Original Black Panthers of Milwaukee have staged successful campaigns against stores selling Legal Lean.
https://www.facebook.com/kila414/videos/1636093903084894/

Also, in Durham NC, activists have started Operation #LeanBack to have the product permanently  shut down, nationwide.

Every community activist should be fighting to get Lean up outta here, whether legal or illegal.
As always, you are gonna have some to defend destruction to the grave. But those of us who aren’t “gone off that Lean” have a responsibility to raise our voices in protest.

As Kendrick Lamar said on Be Humble

“I let my soul speak, you let the meds talk…”

AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted

AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted:
The Return of the Intelligent Thug
                                 Min. Paul Scott

“Emancipate yourself from mental slavery/None but ourselves can free our minds”
  Redemption Song-Bob Marley

Back in the day, members of my generation proudly sported our “Warning Educated Black Man” T-shirts while pumpin’ Ice Cube’s “AmeriKKKa’ s Most Wanted”  in our rides.” During that period we were clear that this country’s biggest fear was an army of militant minded Brotha and Sista Souljah’s waging an all out war against the lies of Western Civilization that kept us bound in the chains of mental slavery. Unfortunately, that era ended abruptly following the LA Rebellion of 1992 and was purposely replaced by a corporate sponsored gangsta dynasty where ignorance was not only bliss but a Hip Hop cultural norm.  However, in  post Baltimore Rebellion America the days of the pro-black T-shirts might just be making a comeback.

Recently, Georgia college student Eric Sheppard was  arrested following a month long manhunt by the Feds. Last April, Sheppard made headlines by stepping on The Stars and Stripes during a college protest.  An arrest warrant was issued for the student because the police found a gun inside a book bag that allegedly belonged to him.  However, many African Americans feel that Sheppard’s  real crime , as a 21 year old black man, was  having more on his mind than the NBA Finals, rap music and strip clubs.  Especially, in a country having nightmares over the possibility of politically conscious street gangs uniting for a common cause .

Yeah, America’s biggest fear has been realized.  The “Intelligent Thugs” that they buried  two decades ago have suddenly  risen from their graves.

The fear of black intelligence stretches back centuries in this country. One must remember that until the late 19th century it was illegal to teach black folk to read. And while much attention is paid towards the brutality of the slave revolts headed by people such as the Reverend Nat Turner, many of the rebels were highly intelligent. As early as 1830, David Walker’s Appeal to the Coloured Citizens of the World caused so much fear among white slave owners that a $10,000 bounty was placed on Walker’s head.

Also, although many people focus on the “burn baby burn” slogans of the 60’s and early 70’s, it must be understood that the members of the Black Power Movement were bookworms.  Kwame Ture, the man credited for popularizing the term “Black Power” was a Howard University graduate.  Malcolm X  was able to debate some of the  best  scholars in the world courtesy of a jailhouse education.  And even though people like to focus on the guns that the Black Panther Party carried, it was the mind of  Huey P Newton that people feared the most as he was able to intellectually navigate between the streets and college campuses.

So, today tragic  events from the  Trayvon Martin murder to the murder of Freddie Gray have many young people embracing some of the teachings that my generation used to talk about in campus student unions and in the back of dusty little black bookstores. However,  where we  had to wait weeks for a new book by Del Jones or a Steve Cokely cassette tape to arrive at the Know Bookstore, these kids have total,  unrestricted,  immediate access via the Internet to all types of information. So, the same political education that took us weeks to study can be learned by a Baltimore gang member during a cross town bus ride via an iPhone and Beats by Dre headphones.

Although, some may think this is just another Hip Hop inspired fad (as many accused the “conscious Hip Hop /Fight the Power Era “ of being) , times have changed.

Unlike the LA Rebellions of 23 years ago, the most recent uprisings  did not have a Hip Hop soundtrack. There was no inflammatory song that the media could pinpoint for inspiring the riots. It can be further argued that the rapper commentators  who appeared on CNN  were not the “voices of the streets” as they were a decade ago, but now were only being used to calm the fears of white America.
Also, if you read the manifesto, that was allegedly written by Eric Sheppard, instead of rap lyrics you will see shout outs to African centered scholars such as Dr. Khallid Muhammad and Dr. Frances Cress Welsing, whose entire catalogs can be easily accessed on Youtube.

So, although talking headz like Sean Hannity  and Anderson Cooper may consider the Eric Sheppards of the world  fringe elements and the media may write his manifesto off as a “publicity stunt”  so their middle class white audiences can sleep at night, the reality is for every Freddie Gray that dies an Eric Sheppard is born.

Maybe the gangs coming together in B-More is a sign of changing  times. What if they put down the guns and decide to form a political coalition after watching an Amos Wilson video on Youtube? Or what if  instead of selling drugs they  decide to open legit businesses after listening to a Dr. Claude Anderson podcast ?
Perhaps the years of us telling these kids that “a mind is a terrible thing to waste” and “Knowledge is Power” were not wasted after all.
Maybe, all they really needed, to borrow from rapper, Young Jeezy was some intelligent “Thug Motivation.”

Rupert Murdoch Ain't My Brother's Keeper

Rupert Murdoch Ain't My Brother's Keeper

                    Min. Paul Scott

Recently, many black folk cheered President Obama's creation of his new, nonprofit spin-off of My Brothers Keeper called My Brother's Keeper Alliance.

That's all good and gravy, as I like the idea of givin'  back to the hood as much as the next guy. And I kinda dug the President's speech about how so many "young men of color" just don't get the breaks of the more economically privileged...

But before I could break into my impromptu rendition of John Legend's nouveau  civil rights anthem from the movie Selma, "Glory," I had to change my tune.

I happened to notice that one of the proud sponsors of the initiative is News Corp, which is owned by the father of Fox News, himself, Rupert Murdoch.

Whoa!!!

Now, I know that if you start marking off everything that Murdoch owns between his News Corp and 21st Century Fox companies, you might as well go back to writing on stone tablets but Fox News is an example of anti-black journalism, if I've ever seen one.

Fox News has been responsible for the most degrading images of black people since, well... BET's Hot Ghetto Mess. Every night, between Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity, the network puts out enough negative images of African Americans to make James Brown stop singin' "I'm Black and I'm Proud."  If you see any black person on Fox News (except for Dr. Ben Carson and a hand full of their other homies) , you can bet your last dollar that they are being treated like...dare I say it ...thugs.

Remember it was Mad Money Murdoch, who once tweeted "all the Egyptians I know are white" in response to the almost lily-white Noah movie cast. (I sure hope he doesn't fund the Brother's Keeper Black History Month program, next year.)

This is not the type of person that I want directing the lives of black boys. The last thing we need is a bunch of new black right wing extremists dressed like Will Smith's  buppy  cousin, "Carlton " from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, dancin' to the ol' school sounds of Ted Nugent.

Nope. We need more Malcolm X's and Marcus Garvey's, not Uncle Toms and Sambos.

My granddad used to say "all money ain't good money." And this is definitely the case with News Corp. Why can't the project be funded by black celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Floyd Mayweather or one of the major Hip Hop artists who spend 50 grand on a good night makin' it rain on naked women in a strip club.

President Obama, should return Murdoch's check with a nice "thanks but no thanks" written on it in graffiti.

That's one brother that My Brother's Keeper should tell to keep his money!

Durham Artists Create New Voices Against Violence Anthem

For many years Durham has gotten a bad rap for being a bastion of crime. The “City of Medicine” has gained a national reputation as being the “City of Violence.” In recent months, the violence seems to have escalated, leaving many residents scratching their heads, unsure of what to do to stop the senseless murders plaguing the Bull City.

However, a Durham musician and producer thinks that he may have the solution.

Marcus Cox, of DreajMusic  has launched the Closed Eyes Project and is making a challenge to other Triangle Area artists to raise their  voices against violence.

https://soundcloud.com/closed-eyes-project

Cox, with the help of  some Bull City artists,  has recorded what they hope will become the official anti-violence anthem of Durham. The project is streaming on Soundcloud.com  and  will consist three version of  Cox’s song “Closed Eyes.”

The first  release (available now)  is  a Hip Hop version to appeal to Durham’s youth co-produced by Prince 8 and also features Hip Hop artist, Big Lah and Durham activist “TRUTH Minista Paul Scott.

The second release  will be  a “Soul Survivor”  version” featuring Cox along with spoken word artist, Tim Jackson for the “less rap music inclined.  “

https://soundcloud.com/closed-eyes-project/closed-eyes-soul-survivor-version

And thirdly, there will be  a “Make Your Own Remix” version, on which Cox is asking Durham residents to add their own rap about stopping the violence over an extended instrumental and put it on social media under the hash tag #closedeyesproject

https://soundcloud.com/closed-eyes-project/closed-eyes-make-your-own-remix

Cox says that he chose the title “Closed Eyes” because too many people  have closed their eyes to the problems facing the young people on the Bully City streets. He hopes that his Closed Eyes project will make all of Durham’s citizens open their's.

False Gods and Fake Kings

False Gods and Fake Kings:
The Hebrew Israelite Influence on Hip Hop
                                      Min. Paul Scott

“Moses had to be of the Black race/cuz he spent 40 years in Pharaoh's Place”
Why Is That?  Boogie Down Productions

The new movie,  Exodus: Gods and Kings,  has drawn a lot of heat because of the producer’s choice to, once again, select a white cast to portray the Egyptians and the Jews of the Old Testament.  To make matters worst, media mogul, Rupert Murdoch further ticked people off when he tweeted  the ludicrous question “since when are the Egyptians not white?” I guess if Murdoch decided to do a Hip Hop version of  Exodus,  the movie would star  Macklemore as  Ramesses the Great , Iggy Azalea as Nefretiri and Eminem as Moses.

The question of the color of the ancient Egyptians and the original Jews has long been debated by scholars. Historically, white scientists have chosen to place a lily white civilization smack dab in the middle of the hot sands of Northern Africa.  Thankfully, black scholars such as Cheikh Anta Diop (The African Origin of Civilization) , Yosef ben-Jochannan  (We the Black Jews) and Anthony Browder (Nile Valley Contributions to Civilization)  have dedicated their lives to correcting this misrepresentation of history.  Interestingly enough, several white writers  such as Godfrey Higgins (Anacalypsis) , Martin Bernal (Black Athena)  and Arthur Koestler  (The Thirteenth Tribe) have presented a more ,historically, accurate truth in their works. White authors such as Sigmund Freud (Moses and Monotheism) and Gary Greenberg (The Bible Myth) have even suggested that Moses, himself, might have been an Egyptian.

Also, there have been numerous religious groups that have challenged the idea of white Judaism since the early 20th century, such as “The Church of God and Saints of Christ,” and the “African Hebrew Israelites” who relocated to Dimona, Israel.  We must never forget that it was Rabbi Arnold Josiah Ford  who wrote the Universal Ethiopian Hymnal for Marcus Garvey’s UNIA, the largest black movement in American history.

However, the history of Black Jews (correctly known as  Hebrew Israelites)  is rarely discussed in this country. Movies like “The Ten Commandments “ have made Moses look like Charlton Heston instead of Wesley Snipes.

Even in Hip Hop, while rap  historians have focused on the Islamic  influence on the genre, relatively little attention has been paid  to the influence of the Hebrew Israelite teachings. There have been many stories written on Rakim, Brand Nubian and Poor Righteous Teachers and their use of Hip Hop to “civilize the 85” but little has been written about artists like Killah Priest and Hell Razah using Hebrew teachings to “ gather the lost tribes.”

One of the first instances of Hebrewism in Hip Hop was Doug E. Fresh and The Get Fresh Crew’s  1985 hit, “The Show.” While the lyrics  contained basically, esoteric Hebrew references,  indiscernible to the untrained ear,  Doug E Fresh’s other works such as “All the Way to Heaven” showed the influence of the Torah more directly. By the time he released “ Aiight” there was little doubt that he was reppin’ the 144 (thousand) as he wore  the Star  of David emblem at the beginning of the video and featured a cameo by some Hebrew Israelites at the end.

In 1989 , Boogie Down Production’s  front man KRS One put writer Ella Hughley’s passage from her book,  “The Truth About Black Biblical Hebrew-Israelites “ into lyrical form on the song  “Why Is That?.” For many Hip Hop fans that was their first exposure to a black Biblical genealogy. He also used part of the same lyrics during the opening of the video for “You Must Learn.”

Years, later the Hebrew teachings came courtesy of Wu Tang affiliates , Sunz of Man. One of the most instrumental albums  out of the Sunz of Man collective was Killah Priest’s solo joint, “Heavy Mental” which featured the classic cut “B.I.B.L.E (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.)

It must be noted that rappers, Drake and Shyne are also Jewish. However, they embrace a more “Orthodox” form of Judaism that differs from the teachings of the Hebrew Israelites.

So the question must be asked, with the influence of Hebrew teachings on Hip Hop, why has there been no large movement to emerge like the Five Percenters or the Nuwaubians. Although there is plenty of 5% terminology embedded within Hip Hop, where is the Hebrew swag? On almost every award show , some rapper yells  “PEACE! “ after he receives his trophy. But when is the last time you heard a rapper yell out “Shalom ?”

Perhaps the reason is because of the strict laws and statutes attached to the Torah as opposed to the NGE (5%) ideology of being I Self Lord And Master.  Or maybe, it is because the racial identity of the “Chosen People” is still too much of a taboo topic to be discussed in a Hip Hop industry that has no problem promoting black genocide on a continuous basis.

But in a time when movies like Exodus; Gods and Kings, are being released, Hip Hop should be some of the strongest voices correcting the historical errors portrayed in the film. Unfortunately, there has been mostly silence from the usually opinionated rap crowd.

The prophets of the Old Testament talked about how the Children of Israel would be a scattered people. This Is especially true in Hip Hop. However, they also prophesied that one day “ a remnant would return.”  With our people living in almost total darkness, it is time for those who are supposed to be chosen to give light to the world to unite!

As we approach 2015, “the dry bones in the valley”  must  connect so we can stand up and be an exceedingly great army to save our people from destruction.

Shalom!

We Charge Zimmer-cide !!!!

In 1951, William Patterson released, We Charge Genocide: The Crime of Government Against the Negro People.  In his petition, he tried to present the plight of African Americans to the United Nations. Now,  in the wake of the George Zimmerman verdict, a Miami Hip Hop artist is saying.  "We Charge Zimmer-cide.

According to,  Yasin  360WiseGuy "Zimmer-cide " is "the killing of  Black children with impunity  under the pretense of fear , then blaming the Black community for the action"

Although, many people are using Black on Black violence in Chicago to justify the murder of Trayvon Martin, in his controversial song  Zimmer-cide (4 Those That Hate Us) , the artist blames white racism for the pathologies facing Black America.

The rapper is urging his fellow artist to take a stand against "Zimmer-cide."

"Today it was Trayvon, tomorrow it could be you or your child,"  says Yasin.

New Rap Music Makes Black Kids Militant

For years rap music has been accused of many things, from "dumbing down" Black youth to containing subliminal messages that are rumored to make kids violent.

However, there is a new stye of rap that is said to make Black youth "militant." Hip Hop activist and journalist, "TRUTH Minista" Paul Scott has gathered a group artists together to create a new style of Hip Hop called "Militant Minded Mess-Age Music. "

According to Scott, the music contains both overt and subliminal messages that will cause Black youth to become "militant minded."

He says that in a time when Black youth are murdered by the likes of George Zimmerman and African Americans are "dissed" by the likes of Paula Deen, it is time for Hip Hop to "Fight the Power," a phrase borrowed from a song by the rap group Public Enemy in the late 80's.

The music mixes hard pounding beats with everything from speeches from Black Power Movement leaders like Malcolm X to African war drums. And just like the old plantation songs, that covertly gave instructions to runaway slaves and insurrectionists, there will be messages only audible to black ears. "

Don't be suprised if your child falls to sleep with his headphones on singing gangsta rap and wakes up quoting H. Rap Brown," says Scott.

Father's Day Warning to Male Rappers:Change Your Posture!

"Hip Hop has become a playground for punks, pervs, and pedophiles."

At least that's how a "Washington, DC" rapper/activist , Yasin 360wiseguy feels about the current state of rap music. The artists has issued a strong warning to the male rappers, "Change Your Posture!"

According to Yasin, Hip Hop has done something that 400 years of slavery could not. It destroyed Black manhood.
"There are no real men in commercial Hip Hop today, says Yasin. "At least back in slavery our manhood was taken from us, now we give it away."

Yasin states that the males in Hip Hop have been castrated which is why it is not uncommon for many of them to wear feminine articles of clothing such as skirts and skinny jeans.
He is also concerned that many rappers in their 30's and 40's are targeting adolescents with their music that promotes sex, drugs and violence.

"Most of the songs are like a pornographic versions of Sesame Street, " he says.
"These dudes should be charged with the statutory rape of rap."

As a solution, Yasin has started the "Change Your Posture" Campaign demanding that rappers stop bowing down to the entertainment industry and stand up like real Men.
On his website http://changeyourposture.org he has a list of rappers who need to change their posture and the reasons why they need to do so.
(1).Lil Wayne (2).Rick ross (3).Drake (4).Trinandad James (5).Chief Keef (6).2-Chains (7.)kayne West (8).Gucci Mane (9).Tyler the Creator (10).Juicy J
The artist has also just released a scathing video that he hopes will shame rappers into being better role models called "Callin Ur Bluff."

Rapper Says White Racism to Blame for Black Violence

Although many people in this country are discussing violence, a Miami rapper is claiming that the real cause of the violence that permeates the Black community is not being discussed.
Originally from the mean streets of Washington DC, Yasin360Wiseguy aka "The Enforcer" is claiming that Black on Black violence is directly related to the history of slavery and racism and the violence in rap music is "The Hip Hop Hatin' that Hate Produced." Growing up in the nation's capital Yasin has seen, first hand. the damage that suppressed black anger at white supremacy can cause. Fortunately, he was able to channel his rage into his music. And he is using his music to make a difference.
The artist is on a mission to enforce principals of unity that will stop the glorification of black death that is prevalent in commercial Hip Hop. He believes that if Black youth understood the roots of Black on Black violence, their behavior would change.
"It does no good to take the guns out of the hands of the boys in the 'hood when the bullet of white supremacy is still lodged in their brains."
His latest video is called "What's Gangsta." G.A.N.G.S.T.A. stands for "Going Against Negativity Getting Stronger Together Always."

N*ggas at the Grammys

N*ggas at the Grammys

TRUTH Minista Paul Scott

“They say money make a n*gga act n*gger-ish”
Problem- A$AP Rocky

Conservative talk show host , Sean O’Reilly hated Hip Hop with a passion. Yet, there he was ,sitting in front of his flat screen watching the Grammys, anxiously , waiting for the rap song of the year to be announced . When the winner was finally revealed ,he jumped off his recliner like this favorite team had just won the Superbowl. No , he hadn’t become a converted Kanye West fan, he was just happy that he could announce to his millions of listeners the next morning that the best rap song was “N*ggas in Paris...”

On February 10th, the world will witness the 55th annual Grammy award show and rap royalty will be in the hizzouse . This ain’t nuthin’ unusual. However, what is news is that for the first time, a song featuring the controversial “N word” is in the running for an award, courtesy of Kanye West and Jay Z’s hit “N*ggas in Paris.” And since the song is nominated in two categories, the odds are in their favor.

The only other thing to come close to this monumental event is, perhaps ,Nas and ex -wife Kelis sportin’ the N*gger T-Shirts on the Red Carpet at the 2008 show.

So the question is, if Kanye and Jay are successful, how are they gonna announce the winner and who is gonna do it ? Since the Grammy folks like to do the unexpected when it comes to announcing winners, I can’t wait to see Ted Nugent jump on stage and say “and the winner of the Rap Performance of the Year is “N*ggers in New Hampshire" ...I mean "Coloreds Outta Compton"..Aw, shucks …”

Also, the fact that the awards are smack dab in the middle Black History Month makes matters worst.

If we look at the history of rap music and the Grammy’s, it is safe to say that the music was not always welcomed at the shows. Kinda like a thugged out version of “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner. “Although the genre was finally recognized as something more than ghetto noise by the late 80’s, controversy was created when the show would not televise the new category ,prompting a boycott by Jazzy Jeff and Will "Fresh Prince" Smith and others in 1989.

So while some will be proud of the fact that 24 years later, Hip hop can proudly boast that it has produced the first N*gga song that could possibly win a Grammy, other Black folks, like myself, look upon the possibility with utter disgust. Especially considering that more socially relevant groups such as Brand Nubian and X-Clan never won the award , even though they are considered legends in the Hip Hop arena.

Perhaps most disturbing is that by rewarding such ignorance , it helps to legitimize the usage of the work in the eyes of White Americans.

Droppin’ the N bomb in the presence of White folks was once seen as a cultural no no. I can remember the controversy that arose when “George Jefferson’s “ white neighbor “Tom Willis” called him a n*gger on national TV on the 70’s sitcom “The Jeffersons”

But thanks to Hip Hop groups, like NWA (Niggaz with Attitude) the word has ,continuously ,become less offensive, even though it is ,technically ,still taboo for white people to actually say the word.

Although, many point to Hip Hop for propagating the warped idea that the overuse of the word would take the power out of it, it was actually white comedian Lenny Bruce who suggested that back in the 60’s. It must also be remembered that John Lennon tried to universalize the term back in 1972 with the song , “Woman is the Nigger of the World.”

It is oft repeated myth that the N Word is hip because it is a term of endearment that all Black people use to express brotherly love and racial solidarity.

Uh, no we “all “don’t.

There are probably more African Americans who, vehemently , oppose the word than those who embrace it.

For instance Philadelphia social worker, Abena Afreeka , who recently started a “N*gga Recovery Program” to help those addicted to using the word, opposes it because it acts as a psychological trigger to subconscious memories of slavery which results in negative behavior. Thus creating the perfect Manchurian candidate.

Despite the false idea that we now live in a color blind society, racism still exists. And when Black rappers use the word they are like Beyonce at the last Inauguration, lip syncing what many white folks in this country wish they could say out loud.

Which probably explains the massive crossover appeal of rappers who frequently use the word like Kanye West and Jay Z’s fellow Grammy contenders former gifted college athlete turned ratchet rapper ,2 Chainz ,and former correctional officer turned “gangsta ,“ Rick Ross.

In a climate where people like Quentin Tarantino feel comfortable releasing N Word laden movies and reality shows that feature African Americans as over sexed buffoons, it is time that we flip the script.

Hip Hop artists must stand up and denounce the use of the word in the same manner that they denounce safer and non- race specific issues like animal cruelty and bullying.

We must realize that the use of the word is just a throw back to slavery and until we stop identifying ourselves as n*ggas, we will continue to be 21st century mental slaves. It is not only the word that must die but the pathological behavior that has been associated with the word courtesy of Holly ‘hood and the music industry.

Like that classic scene from the old school Spike Lee flick “School Daze” when Dap (Laurence Fishburne) tells some brothas “you’re not nigga’s,” this must be our message in 2013.

But truth is there is a trace of the racial inferiority complex ,a carry over from the enslavement of our ancestors, in all of us. And in order for our fullest self to live, that part of us must die.

So before we can change the world we must change ourselves

As Chuck D once asked on the Autobiography of Mr. Chuck, “Can you kill the n*gger in you?”
