Star Parker and CURE:
Negroes With Guns 2013

I always thought that Black Republicans were either confused, disillusioned or just modern day porch monkeys for the Right Wing. Now that I've seen the "Never Again" video courtesy of "Black" conservative Star Parker, I am convinced that they are all the above.
For those not hip to Star Parker, she gained fame in the 90's as the flunky that the Conservatives used to bash Black folks on welfare. They no longer had to speculate that America was goin' broke because of Lakesha spending her welfare check gettin' her hair "did" and buying Lil Tyrone some $200 Air Jordans, they now had a live one who could testify to that fact.

Now, that white America is all up in arms that the Prez is gonna take their AK 47's that they are just using for coon huntin', enter Parker and her homies from CURE who have released a video called "Never Again" that compares anti-gun legislation to Jim Crow laws.

On a good day the Black conservatives would have you believe that White Supremacy is a thing of the past (if it ever existed at all) and Black folks in the 'hood need an arsenal to just protect themselves from the Boyz in the 'Hood.
Of course Fox News ran with this story. It is ironic that the network that went on a two year rant against Black men (members of the New Black Panther Party) carrying billy clubs now are advocates for giving Black folks high powered weapons.
Let's be clear. Gun control for Black folks and gun control for Whites, historically, are two separate things
Contrary to what Parker and 'em are pushin' , it wasn't the guns that were the problem back during slavery time, Black people were not able to defend themselves, legally, period..whether it was a gun, knife or water balloon.
Also, in more recent history the contradiction becomes even more clear.
The fear of "Negroes With Guns," has always superseded the 2nd Amendment. It was not until events like Robert Williams arming his "Deacons for Defense" to protect the black folks in Monroe, NC back in the 50's or the Black Panther Party storming into the Sacramento State Capitol in 1967, that gun control even became an issue.
This double standard is a classic example of what writer, Tim Wise, refers to as white privilege. In his recent article, "Imagine if the Tea Party Were Black" he defines white privilege as " the ability to threaten others, to engage in violent and incendiary rhetoric without consequence, to be viewed as patriotic and normal no matter what you do, and never to be feared and despised as people of color would be."
What infuriates me most about the Never Again video is when they go hyper-speed from Jim Crow laws to lynchings.
Somewhere Ida B. Wells-Barnett must be turning over in her grave.
They should be ashamed of using a picture of a lynching to advocate for a conservative cause. I guess next they'll use a gas oven to fight against green energy.
This has nothing to do with whether or not you have the right to be strapped but everything to do with the way the Right Wing twists Black history to fit their twisted agenda.
CURE must understand that racism is still alive and well in America.
I just hope it doesn't take some trigger happy yahoo mistaking their child's bag of skittles for a 9mm to make them realize that.
