Black Militants Take Over Conservative Station

Black Militants Take Over Conservative Station

Paul Scott

(NWSF News) Today a band of black militants calling themselves The Frighten Conservatives Crew (FCC for short) took over local Fox affiliate, WWYT in Des Moines, Iowa. The local authorities were tipped off by a listener who became suspicious when The Sean Hannity Show was interrupted by Public Enemy's "Fight the Power."

OK, I made that up.

But with the current Right Wing paranoia over the Federal Communication Committee's Diversity Committee and the rise of the dreaded Fairness Doctrine, this scenario is the Right's worst nightmare.

The FCC has set up a special group to put some color in talk radio and television much to the chagrin of those who want to keep the airwaves as white as Wonder Bread.

Come on guys. What's wrong with a little bit of soul during your morning commute ?

While there are hundreds of white talk show hosts and other media personalities across the country, there only a relative handful of African American opinion makers and yet fewer who comment from an Afrocentric perspective.

In every market you will find at least one white conservative talk show host. The trend really kicked off in the mid 90's as a reaction to Bill Clinton's Democratic Administration when Rush Limbaugh, G Gordon Liddy and others became overnight celebrities. Not to mention the increased popularity of Right Wing journalists that espoused the values of and spoke apologetically for white conservative Americans.

But who speaks for Black folks?

While there are a few nationally syndicated talk shows courtesy of Radio One’s Syndication One and a few other companies, it is safe to say that Bill O’Reilly reaches more homes than all the black commentators combined.

What is especially disturbing is the disappearance of local black talk programing. During the 70's, it wasn’t uncommon to have Bro. Righteous Raymond on WBLK giving the 411 on all the issues facing Black America. Even mainstream television stations in urban areas aired the obligatory Saturday night "Soul Sister Sheena’s Soul Sensation."

It must be noted , however, that this was not the result of benevolence on the part of white corporations but a necessary evil in an America that was not even a decade removed from the urban rebellions of the Black Power Era. White America needed someone to interpret the meaning of the sounds the African war drums still reverberating through the hoods. They just figured it was better to have black folks express their rage over the airwaves where it could be monitored and regulated by advertising dollars instead of having Black folks hold clandestine meeting in the back of barbershops orchestrating ways to "get whitey." But as the white paranoia of some great bloody uprising subsided, so did their need for black programming.

During the 90's, the post LA Rebellion multi cultural movement gave rise to a "universalism" that made all racial issues colorless. Also, one cannot forget the impact of FCC deregulation that allowed corporations to monopolize media markets and allowed public affairs programing to be almost totally eradicated.

Perhaps the main cause of the demise of black public affairs programming was the fear of the infinite possibilities of black talk by those in power (ie rich white folks) to the change social and political landscape of America.

This is best exemplified by the Right's hatred of Hip Hop. Contrary to popular belief, the first attacks on Hip Hop were not leveled against the "gangsta rappers" but the overtly political rap of Public Enemy and Sister Souljah and during that period, full time gangsta's and part time revolutionaries Tupac Shakur, Ice T and Ice Cube. If given a choice most Right Wingers would choose the nonpolitical rap of 50 Cent instead of the problack politics of Dead Prez, anyday.

What has scared the pants off of white America is the potential for black talk to galvanize the masses of black people toward social action whether deliberate or accidental as was the case when the Magnificent Montague catch phrase "Burn Baby Burn," unintentionally, became the battle cry of the 1965 Watts Rebellion.
It is past time that we begin to see more black faces on Fox News and heard more black voices on talk radio.

It must be emphasized here that we don't just want "any" black person on the air but one who speaks from an authentically "black" perspective.
So, don't try to pull a fast one and hire a Ward Connerly wanna be just to fill a quota.

Dogonit! We want the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Power Hour everyday, at noon !

A new day is coming Conservatives. So be afraid, be very afraid.

So, the next time that you are riding merrily along and hear Malcolm X's "Ballot or the Bullet" speech instead of Mike Savage's Savage Nation realize that the revolution is at your front gate.

America Mourns the Death of Joe the Racist

America Mourns the Death of Joe the Racist:

Will Racism Rest in Peace?:

Paul Scott

For half of America, the outcome of the last election was seen as a time to celebrate the birth of a new era of change. For the other half, it was a funeral to mourn the death of Racism and the idea that America is "a white man's country." While both of these scenarios made good headlines, neither represents reality; historically nor in real time.

This may come as a shock for the overly optimistic but Racism is not dead. Matter of fact, it has more lives than Jason from the Friday the 13th movie series. Just when you think you've finally laid him to eternal rest , you hear that annoying horror movie music and teenage campers start going missing at the lake.

The reason for the resilience of Racism is mostly because most people don't have a working definition of the term. While the dictionary may define it as "the notion that one's own ethnic stock is superior," the functional definition digs deeper into the social and economic roots of the "notion" of racial superiority. Racism is the ability for one's race to impose its will on another race. And to quote writer Neely Fuller, "the only form of functional Racism that exists among the people of the known universe is White Supremacy." Therefore, as a group, black people cannot be racist nor do we have any real power to dictate the terms of this country's race relations. In reality, the only black person in this country that has that power is Barack Obama, himself.

Historically speaking, this is not the first time that Racism has flat lined. From the time of the Emancipation Proclamation to Reconstruction to the election of President John F. Kennedy, many have prematurely declared Racism dead. Even in recent times, in the sometimes shallow world of Hip Hop , some have seen the popularity of white rappers such as Vanilla Ice and Eminem as evidence that Racism was on its last legs.

Racism is a horrible burden to bear for black folks and it is understandable why some are quick to report that "Joe the Racist" has died of pneumonia when, in actuality, he only had a cold.

For some, the reasons are economically motivated . It has always been a feeling among some African Americans that in order to move up in the world, you have to "act white" and deny your own culture. So, the upwardly mobile middle class no longer have to worry about being called "Oreos, sell-outs or Uncle Toms" at this year's Thanksgiving dinner by less affluent family members. If Racism is dead then everyone has equal opportunity.

There is also a sexual component to the need to break down racial barriers. For many years white women have been the forbidden fruit. There are black men who champion a color blind society for no other reason than to have a better chance of dating Sarah Palin.

But despite all the wishful thinking, there are reasons why Racism has more lives than Garfield.

First, as activists like the late Kwame Ture (Stokely Carmichel) were quick to point out, Capitalism, needs Racism in order to survive. There has to be a permanent underclass and this underclass has been made up, primarily, of people of color.

Also, fighting Racism is in and of itself a business. If Racism ends, many civil rights leaders will be in line at Wall Mart trying to hook up a job for the Christmas season.

Lastly, for a large segment of the population, the only way that you will remove the sceptre of white supremacy is from their cold dead hands. If one truly needs to to know that Racism is alive and kicking one needs only to flip his radio dial to the local conservative talk radio station.

As long as you have right wing conduits such as Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Mike Savage holding daily seances on radio and TV shows, it won't be long before the white sheet wearing specter of Racism rises from the dead saying,

"Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated."

Mike Savage's Savage Comments

I think it's safe to say that most black folks don't listen to Michael Savage, so most , probably, did not hear the venom that he spewed about African people on January 29th. So if you missed it, the clip can be heard via Media Matters.

http://mediamatters.org/items/200801310003

Now for the record, I did try to confront Savage on the air last Friday night but the "screener" said that my cell phone signal was too weak???

Go figure....

Now, Savage and others of his ilk make their livings by saying stuff like this, so it can be expected. However, the main problem is the access to the people that these right wing fascists have as opposed to the lack of the media access that black folks possess.

For every "Tavis Smiley" there are a thousand conservative commentators in cities across this country. And while most local black talk shows are one hour, by weekly shows, conservative talk radio may have five Mike Savages and Rush Limbaughs back to back, 24 hours a day.

Now before you start mouthing off that "it's you're own fault for playing that "hippity hoppity rap stuff" instead of giving your community info...."

You and I both know, its not that simple.

These mega "black" radio stations are funded by white mega corporations to give black folks entertainment instead of information.

Or in other words to keep us dumb...

Most of the time the "black" radio stations are so fearful of saying something that will offend their white sponsors/listeners that they shy away from anything that can be labeled too black...

So, I guess songs about selling drugs in a duffle bag and "super sokin' hoes" aren't offensive to white people.

White folks have stations that are purely for entertainment, as well but they have more than enough talk shows to make up the difference.

Have we ever asked why the talk radio station WZTK (which broadcasts Savage) with one of the most powerful signals in NC does not have any programs that cater to the black community...Have we ever asked? I just sent the station an email but I am not holding by breath while waiting for a response.

I wonder does the parent company, Curtis Media, have any black oriented talk shows? Now I did notice that the company does have a 1000 watt gospel staion down in Goldsboro. But as they say, religion has been used to make black folks focus on heaven while they are living in hell on earth. Kinda like Marx's "religion is the opiate of the people" theory carried to the nth degree.

Now you can argue that a company can do whatever it wants, after all it is their money. However, last time I checked you cannot "buy" the airwaves, you can only borrow them. So, there should be some "soul" coming through once in a while...

Knowledge is power, so the powerful go to great lengths to keep Knowledge from the powerless. Because with the right Knowledge the powerless will one day become the powerful!
